Robinson, Sr., 84, of 348 Mill St. Ext., died Tuesday, March 4, 2014 in River Terrace Healthcare, after an illness. He leaves four children: Carol Garfield and her husband, David, of Winchendon, George Robinson, Jr. and his wife, Chris, of Lunenburg, Sharon Flanigan and her husband, James, of Marlborough, and Laura Robinson of Clinton; four step-children: Mary Sulkoski and her husband, Tony, of Brunswick, ME, Dianne Cahill and her husband, Lee, of Oxford, Susan Durost and her husband, Robert, of Lancaster, and Kenneth Godin of Lancaster; a brother, Charles Robinson; two sisters: Dorothy Bailey and Emma Campbell; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Mary A. (Marchelletta) Robinson, who died in 2005, and their son, Philip S. Robinson, who died in 1982. Three siblings, Kenneth Robinson, Arthur Robinson, and Elizabeth Witkowski, also predeceased him. George was born in Harvard, son of Charles and Orilda (Stebbins) Robinson, and lived in Lancaster most of his life. A US Army Veteran of the Korean War, he served with the 101st Airborne Division, and was an active member of the American Legion, Post 96, for nearly 50 years. He worked for the Town of Lancaster, Department of Public Works, for 30 years, retiring as Supervisor in 1991. George was a dedicated member of the community, who, through the years, served on numerous committees for the betterment of the Town of Lancaster, including the Korean War Memorial, and the Thayer Field Commission, and served as Water Commissioner and a Special Reserve Police Officer. Gladys spent her childhood in Thomaston and graduated from Thomaston High School in the class of 1950. As a teenager she enjoyed babysitting and worked in the sardine packing factories in Rockland. Her favorite pass times were skating and dancing. On October 25, 1952 she married Otis B. Benner, Jr.. Early in their marriage Gladys worked at G.T.E. Sylvania in Waldoboro and later became a life-time homemaker, raising four children. Through the years, she enjoyed the many day trips, her son, Douglas, took her on, until his passing in 1991. She was predeceased by her son, Douglas; granddaughter, Nichole Benner; brothers, Harold and Frank Cushman. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Otis B. Born in Waldoboro March 10, 1904, she was the daughter of George W. and Laura Shuman Jones. She was educated in Waldoboro schools. In earlier years Mrs. Genthner had worked at the Waldoboro Button Factory and at Rockland and Boothbay Seafood processing companies. More recently and until her retirement in 1972, she had worked as a housekeeper for local families. Mrs. Genthner kept two donkeys which she attectiontately referred to as Jack & Jill. She enjoyed driving her lawn tractor and was often seen pulling her grandchildren in a wagon behind the tractor. Pre-ceased by one daughter Lillian L. Kummel in 1992. Mrs. Genthner is survived by four daughters, June Genthner of Waldoboro, Louise Collamore of West Bath, Elta Storer with whom she resided for 40 years of Damariscotta, Lois Reed of Rockland; 21 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and one nephew, Niven Chapman of Damariscotta. Er war Mitglied der Cook's Memorial Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. Seine Leidenschaft galt dem Gideon-Dienst — der Weitergabe des Wortes Gottes an die Menschen. Er war Kirchenältester, Sonntagsschullehrer, Präsident der Men of the Church, erhielt die Auszeichnung für lebenslanges Mitglied, war Mitglied des Amerikanischen Roten Kreuzes, Präsident des Boy's Club of America in Augusta, Georgia, Präsident von Junior Achievement in Augusta, Georgia, und spielte 1960 im Tangerine Bowl. Gordon was born on February 8, 1938 in Danvers, Massachusetts. He was the son of the late Gordon Lambert Stanley and Clara McFarland Stanley. He was a member of Cook's Memorial Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC. His passion was the Gideon Ministry – putting the word of God in people's hands. He was a church Elder, Sunday School teacher, President of Men of the Church, received the Lifetime Member Award, American Red Cross, President of Boy's Club of America of Augusta, GA, President of Junior Achievement of Augusta, GA, played in the 1960 Tangerine Bowl. His favorite past times were football, baseball, reading and especially spending precious time with his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Youngblood Stanley, of 61 years. | 4116 | LifeSketch GREENE - Norman S. Farrington Sr., 83, of 57 Main St., died Monday, July 9, 2012, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice in Auburn. Born in West Washington on Feb. 8, 1929, he was the son of Lillian (Warner) and Harry Farrington Sr. Educated in local schools, he served in the Army Air Corps before returning to the local area to work as a truck driver. He eventually went to work at Hillcrest Foods, first as a driver, then as trucking supervisor, and finally as plant supervisor. Following Hillcrest's closing, he went to work for Harleys-R-Us, managed a horse farm, and drove a dump truck for K&K Construction, retiring in 2011. On March 9, 1980, he married Geraldine (Michaud). After his retirement, Norman liked to keep busy working around the house, playing cards and Bingo, and spending time with loved ones. He was a dedicated husband and father who loved car trips, the outdoors, and the Boston Red Sox. Survivors include his loving wife, of Greene; three sons, Norman Jr., and wife Jerri-Ann, of Greene, Kenneth and longtime companion Rick Hughes, of Augusta, and Ronnie and wife Faylene, of Leeds; two stepsons, Robert Akers, and wife Melissa, of Lewiston, and Jay Akers and fiancée Kimberly Staples, of Lewiston; four daughters, Darlene Cloutier and husband Ronnie, of Farmingdale, Patricia Robbins and longtime companion Gerry Watson, of Boothbay, Tracy Farrington and longtime companion Orville "Olive" Dawkins, and Melissa Farrington and longtime companion Jaime McLeod, of Lewiston; a sister, L. He was born in Fairfield on Dec. 25, 1909, the son of George N. and Harriet Snell. He was the husband of Katherine Holmes Snell. He was a graduate of Colburn Classical Institute, attended the University of Maine at Orono and graduated from Colby College, class of 1932. He had been employed by American Oil Co., Portland and Forster Manufacturing Co., Strong. He moved here from Portland in 1943 when he founded and was president of Snell Tire Co. in Augusta, until 1966. He sold the company to Noyes Tire Co. of Westbrook and was employed by Noyes as a marketing manager and assistant to the president, retiring in 1976. Mr. Snell was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity at UMO; was active in civic affairs; a member and past president pf the Augusta Rotary Club, serving as auctioneer for the Rotary March of Dimes Radio Auction for many years; a member and past president of the Augusta Country Club; member and past president of the Maine Tire Dealers Association; member and past president of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Building Committee of the Augusta General Hospital; a member of the board of directors of the Kennebec Valley Y.M.C.A., and the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce; chairman of the board of the Kennebec Valley Community Chest; a member of the board of directors of Depositors Trust Co. of Augusta; and currently was a trustee of the Helen W. Fuller Memorial Fund and chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Kennebec Saving Bank, Augusta. He is survived by his wife of Hallowell, two sons, Jere R. Snell of Raleigh, N.C., and Stephen H. Snell of Baltimore, Md.; a daughter, Mrs. Walter (Anna) Curtis of Maxfield; a step-sister, Mrs. George (Jeannette) Quarmby of Sarasota, Fla.; and also five grandchildren. Hallowell's Citizen of the Year for 1991, Mrs Snell served on the School board for six years and on the committee to restore the Dr. John Hubbard Jr. office in Hallowell. She was a member of the Augusta Country Club, the Questers, Lubec Historical Society, New Brunswick Genealogical Society, St. Andrew's Society of Maine, and the Row House Inc. She won prizes for her miniature room displays. She is survived by two sons, Jere R. Snell of Raleigh, N.C., and Stephen H. Snell of Washington D.C.; a daughter, Anna M. Ruth and Earle were married on 03 July 1918 in Warren, Knox County, Maine. Ruth and Earle had four children. They were: Earle Maxcy, Jr., was born on 24 March 1919; Harlan S. Maxcy was born on 04 December 1923; Robert M. Maxcy was born on 17 November 1929; and Marilyn Jean Maxcy was born on 19 February 1932 in Thomaston, Knox County, Maine. Harlan married Myra W. Lash on 20 March 1946 in Camden, Knox County, Maine. Note: Thomaston – Harlan S. Maxcy, 87, longtime Friendship resident, went home to be with the Lord, at Miles Memorial Hospital. He was surrounded by his wife, all of their children and many grandchildren. Born in Warren, he was the son of Earle and Ruth Lermond Maxcy. Harlan was educated locally and attended Thomaston High School. Drafted into the US Army during World War II, Harlan was proud to have fought in five major battles of that time. While in the Army he was a motorcycle dispatch rider. His family said this sparked his life-long love of motorcycle riding. Returning to the states, Harlan married the love of his life, Myra W. Lash in Camden on March 20, 1946. The couple made their home in Friendship most of their married life. Together they held memberships at Friendship Advent Christian Church. For several years, Harlan was employed as a guard at the Maine State Prison. For twenty years he worked as an electrician at Bath Iron Works. For most of his career, Harlan was a truck driver. His family said he loved to be behind the wheel, and he continued trucking even when he was 80 years old. Harlan plowed snow for the Town of Cushing until a stroke forced him to stop. Harlan enjoyed music and sharing his talents with others. He often played accordion and harmonica at local nursing homes, including Cove's Edge where he recently spent a few weeks as a resident. Camping and riding his motorcycle with his wife were favorite pastimes. Together they enjoyed many trips, including long distance trips to Canada and North Carolina. Predeceased by a son, Joel S. | 4123 | LifeSketch Harlow Mank, 83, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at Pen Bay Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Warren, Jan. 29, 1930, he was the son of Lubelle L. Mank. Raised by his grandparents, Addie and Burleigh Mank Sr. in Waldoboro, he worked with his grandfather on the family farm and in the woods as a child. He attended Warren schools and as an adult, furthered his education. A born and bred Mainer, Harlow was a jack-of-all trades. Over the years he worked as a cook at Moody's Diner, bus driver with Warren schools, at Dragon Cement Plant in Thomaston and as a car salesman. In conjunction with his other jobs, Harlow raised broiler chickens for Penobscot Poultry. His family said Harlow probably found most fulfillment as a carpenter/builder. He built houses, renovated apartments, and built furniture. Quietly helping many people in need, he would rather build a small house for a family, than work on a more expensive one. He enjoyed spending weekends helping his grandchildren with building projects. He also worked with his sons at Mank Brothers Garage in Warren. Driving his 1957 Chevy and 1940 Chevy Coupe around town was a favorite pastime for Harlow. For more than 20 years he drove the Union Fair Blueberry Queen Contestants in the Coronation. Many times he drove the grand marshall in the Warren Day Parade and in earlier years, participated as a clown in the parade. He also enjoyed riding his antique Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Never one to sit still, Harlow enjoyed Tuesday night Poker games, playing Beano, Saturday night dances, which he continued until recent weeks, family times at the cottage and holidays with all the family packed into his home. He was a member of the Second Congregational Church of Warren, where he participated many years in the Couples Club Minstrel Shows; the Tiger Engine Company of the Warren Fire Department and was a life member of the Warren Lodge No. 127, International Order of Odd Fellows. Predeceased by his wife Elizabeth Robinson Mank, his brother Philip Seekins Jr., and a great-grandson Kevin Emery, Harlow is survived by his long-time partner, Ruth Emery; his five children, Melody Sainio, Aleta Mank, Nola Metcalf, Kirby Mank and his wife Amy, all of Warren, Stuart Mank and his wife Bonnie of Jefferson; 10 grandchildren, Regina Gamage and her husband Joe, Shane Sainio and his wife Bonnie, Elijah Metcalf and his wife Cindy, Kyle Metcalf and her partner Mathias Hawes, Annika Metcalf and her partner Chris Anca, Lexi Mank and her partner Robert Doak, Haley Mank, Jared Mank, Sam Mank, Zachary Mank and his partner Meredith Wiemer; three great-grandchildren, Henry Gamage, Judd Gamage, Riley Johnson; his aunt Doris Paulsen of Rockland; four sisters, Doris LeClair and her husband Paul of Warren, Shirley Wooster, Faye Warford and her husband Bill, all of Thomaston; Sandra Carroll and her husband Fred of Washington; a brother Wayne Seekins and his wife Claire of Thomaston; as well as several nieces and nephews. | 4128 | LifeSketch Hon. George N. Winchenbaugh a prominent and respected citizen, died at his home at South Waldoboro Thursday evening after a short illness from pneumonia. Mr. Winchenbaugh was born in Waldoboro August 1, 1855, the son of Jacob and Julia Achorn Winchenbaugh. He was active in town offices since twenty-one years old, serving with great credit as selectman, assessor, tax collector, and deputy sheriff. He also was elected representative to legislature where he served with the same faithfulness which he has showed in town affairs. A man of excellent judgement and wise decisions his place will not soon be filled. He leaves a widow, Mary E.; three sons, Perley C. of Waldoboro, Merton L. and Fernival G. of Medford, Mass., two daughters, Mrs. LaForest Mank of Waldoboro and Mrs. Albert Cushman of Friendship, a brother Sanford of Waldoboro and two sisters, Mrs. Brainerd Pitched and Miss Sarah of Somerville, Mass., and eleven grandchildren. The last services were held at his late home Sunday with Rev. W.R. Patterson officiating. Interment was in the family lot at South Waldoboro. Wallace and Son from 1937-1969, 20 years of which were a milk route; he ran Gammon's Garage, a truck repair shop, from 1969-1989; had a dairy farm for many years; and was on the budget committee for the Town of Warren. David was born on May 1, 1942 in Truro, N.S., the oldest child of the late Roy and Marion (MacLeod) Stevenson. He is survived by his wife, Judy T. Manchester; brothers. Allan and Ian (Peter Keizer); sisters, Janet Stevenson (Trevor Brumwell) and Margaret Bowes; children, Anne and John (Natasha); step-children Erik, Kristen, and Andrea; step-grandchildren, Anya, Hillary, Liese, and Liam. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by brother Robert and former wife, Mary Patterson. David worked for the Royal Bank before pursuing an EdD at the University of Maine, he also received a Bachelor of Commerce at Dalhousie University, a Bachelor of Education at Acadia University, and a Master of Public Administration also at Dalhousie University. David was a cheerful shining light in this community, and he was often sighted along Main Street in Tatamagouche shoveling snow in his driveway while wearing shorts! He had a passion for his community, for people, as well as for Wind and Solar Energy. After graduation, she was first employed in a teaching position, at Winslow High School. Subsequently, in 1950, she joined the Bangor Public Library, as reference librarian. While living in Bangor, she joined the U.S. Naval Reserves, as a WAVE. In 1960, she moved to Bar Harbor, to accept employment as head librarian, at the Jesup Memorial Library, where she met her husband. She then retired in 1967, after the birth of their daughter, to devote herself to being a homemaker for her family. However, Jeanette continued to be a resource for the library, both as a patron, and adviser. An avid reader, and lover of animals, Jeanette had many friends in the community. She was a devout member of her church, first at Saint John's Episcopal Church, Bangor, and later, at Saint Saviour's Episcopal Parish, in Bar Harbor, and finally, at the Church of Our Father, in Hulls Cove, for more than 30 years. She not only supported the churches to which she belonged, but was, also, a member of several community organizations. She is survived by her devoted husband, the Honorable, Bernard C. Staples, of Bar Harbor; and her loving daughter, Heather A. Staples, of Portland.,She is, also, survived by her much loved pets, Smokie, Hobbes, and Katie. About 20 years ago he came to Waldoboro, and at the time of his death was operating a grocery store in Thomaston. He was a member of Wessagusset Lodge, F. and A.M., Weymouth, Mass. Surviving are his widow, Mrs, Dorothy H. Winchenbach; two daughters, Mrs. Barbara McAfee, Rock Island, Ill., Mrs. Arvilla Bowers, Damariscotta; four grandchildren; and two brothers, Fred and Edgar Winchenbach, Waldoboro. April 2019, Karfreitag, nur vierzehn Stunden nach ihrer Rückkehr nach Hause nach einem wunderbaren Familientreffen am Vorabend. Sie war eine geliebte Mutter, und ihre Kinder sagten: „Ihr Leben würde nie wieder dasselbe sein." Unzählig sind die vielen Menschen, die sie in ihrem alten Landhaus willkommen hieß, darunter auch die vielen Freunde ihrer Kinder, die oft übernachteten. Sie war eine wunderbare Köchin und erwähnte kürzlich, wie sehr sie es vermisste, Zitronenkuchen, Nissua-Kaffeekuchen und Käsekuchen zu backen. Ihre Kinder erinnerten sich noch gut daran, wie sie als Kinder von der Schule nach Hause kamen und die selbstgebackenen Leckereien ihrer Mutter aßen. Sie wartete auf schönes Wetter, um auf ihre Veranda gehen zu können. Aber …, sagte sie, freue sie sich nicht darauf, die neuen Steinhaufen in Sichtweite ihres Gartens wachsen zu sehen. Sie lebte seit ihrem sechzehnten Lebensjahr in diesem Haus und wollte nirgendwo anders sein. Sie liebte das Autofahren und gab es nur ungern auf. Doch so hatte sie die Möglichkeit, mehr Zeit mit ihrer Tochter Polly zu verbringen. Sie unternahmen im Laufe der Jahre viele gemeinsame Ausflüge, und Bea hatte Polly kürzlich alle Orte und Menschen genannt, die sie im Sommer besuchen wollte. Bea war eine leidenschaftliche Tierliebhaberin. Sie hatte immer eine Geschichte aus der Zeit vor Jahren parat, als Clayt und Polly noch jünger waren. Sie liebte ihre liebe blinde Siamkatze „Su-kai", an die sie oft zurückdachte. Besonders gern besuchte sie ihre Urenkelin Desirea, an die sie ihre Tierliebe vererbt hatte. Sie liebte es, alle Tiere zu sehen, und scheute sich nie, sie zu küssen und zu knuddeln, egal wie groß oder klein sie waren. Ihre Liebe zu Tieren spiegelte ihr liebevolles Wesen wider. Sie konnte nie verstehen, wie jemand „dumme Tiere" sagen konnte, und sagte, sie kenne viele Tiere, die schlauer seien als die meisten Menschen, die sie traf. Sie freute sich immer über den Besuch ihrer Familie, was sie regelmäßig tat. Ihr Enkel Brian kam fast täglich vorbei und brachte ihr Sandwiches und Pizza mit. Sie freute sich auch auf die Sonntagabend-Pizzaessen mit ihrem Sohn Clayty und ihrer Schwiegertochter Bette. Gelegentlich kam auch Tochter Polly dazu. Sie sagte immer, jede Pizza sei die schönste, die sie je gesehen habe. Bea genoss es, wenn ihre Großnichte Pearl Seekins wöchentlich zu Besuch kam, ebenso wie ihre Freundinnen Jane Sprowl, Marion Martin, Judy Meklin und ihre Nichte Kay Sylvester. Sie liebte es, wenn Brian sich um ihre geliebten Vogelhäuschen kümmerte. Sie wollte es immer selbst tun, ließ ihn aber gerne mithelfen. Sie verbrachte Stunden damit, die Vögel aus dem Fenster zu beobachten, und liebte die zarten kleinen Kolibris, auf deren Ankunft sie jedes Jahr wartete. Ihre Pflanzen und Vogelhäuschen waren stets eine Quelle der Freude und ein weiterer Grund für ihren geliebten Enkel, vorbeizuschauen. In den letzten fünfeinhalb Monaten genoss sie es, ihren jüngsten Ururenkel, Levi Ezra York, im Arm zu halten und war von seinen blauen Augen begeistert. Bea war stets stolz auf ihre Blumen- und Gemüsegärten sowie die Rasenpflege. In den letzten Jahren freute sie sich über die Hilfe ihres Enkels Brian im Blumengarten, ihres Enkels Jeff im Gemüsegarten und ihres Sohnes Clayt beim Rasenmähen. Beas Lieblingsblumen aus ihrem Garten waren Pfingstrosen, und sie liebte es, wunderschöne Sträuße für Familie und Freunde zu binden. Bea war lange Zeit aktive Kommunikantin der St. Peters Episcopal Church in Rockland. Viele Jahre lang engagierte sie sich mit großer Freude als Koordinatorin der Altargilde, angefangen bei Pater Kenyon und später bei mehreren Priestern in St. Peters. Sie genoss die Treffen und das Mittagessen der Gilde am Donnerstag und freute sich besonders über den wöchentlichen Besuch der Damen von St. Peters, die die Kommunion und Lesungen mitbrachten. Sie war außerdem emeritiertes Mitglied des Order of the Eastern Star und der Rebekah's Lodge in Thomaston. Bea wurde am 7. Oktober 1918 in Brandon, Vermont, als Tochter von Chauncy Sr. und Eva M. Rogers Clark geboren. Sie besuchte die örtlichen Schulen. Neben ihren Eltern verstarben vor Bea ihr geliebter Ehemann Clayton E. Keizer Sr. im Jahr 1995, ihr geliebter Sohn David Keizer im Jahr 1983 und ihr Schwiegersohn John O. Lantz Jr. im Jahr 2015, zwei geliebte Enkel, Jeffrey York im Januar dieses Jahres und Daren Keizer, sowie drei Geschwister, Herbert Clark, Marian Clark und Chauncey Clark Jr. Sie hinterlässt ihre Tochter Pauline York Lantz aus Port Clyde, ihren Sohn Clayton E. | 4150 | LifeSketch Madelyn Woodbury passed away peacefully at her son's home in Jefferson on Feb. 27, 2022. She was 76 years old. Madelyn, or Maddie as most of her friends knew her, was born in Rockland on Sept. 20, 1945 to Gertrude Mank and Augustus Moody Jr. She and her older brother Dean grew up on the family farm in Jefferson and attended Lincoln Academy, class of 1963 where she was proud to receive the Crisco Homemaker Award. After graduation, she married Eben C. Hunt and had two children, Dale and Kimberly. She was skilled in secretarial and administrative positions but found the greatest career satisfaction when she became a full-time seamstress, where she created original designs and expertly tailored apparel for many in the community for their special events. Many of her clients became lifelong friends. Her creativity in the sewing room spilled into watercolor painting. She created a small studio at her home and note cards from some of her favorite works. Her Christmas tree painting was a popular design at local craft fairs. Later in life, she created custom pillows adorned with antique buttons that Sproul's Furniture carried. Maddie loved family, her many pet cats, and Buick Riviera cars. She enjoyed baking pies and her family looked forward to her cinnamon buns during the holidays. She had an affinity for fashion and subscribed to many fashion magazines and was known for wearing her beret when out and about. She enjoyed genealogy and researching her family history. She was a faithful friend to many and a devout parishioner at the First Baptist Church in Nobleboro. Maddie is survived by her son, Dale Hunt, his wife, Katherine, and grandchildren, Lauren and Gus, of Jefferson; her daughter, Kimberly Hunt, husband, Michael Bisson, and granddaughter, Camille, of Pleasanton, Calif.; and her first husband, Eben C. Hunt, of Newcastle. She is predeceased by her parents; brother; husband, Walter Littlefield; and husband, Tom Woodbury. A graveside service for family and memorial service for friends and family is planned for later in the spring. Hall's of Waldoboro has care of the arrangements.
