| 8153 | Virgil Winchenbach March 31, 2008 at 12:00 am Virgil Wilbur Winchenbach, 91, of Waldoboro, went home to be with the Lord on March 30. He was born on Nov. 22, 1916 in Waldoboro, a son of the late Millard and Ruth Studley Winchenbach. He was a self employed clam fisherman before he enlisted in the US Army in 1942. He was a Tec 5 heavy truck driver and operating engineman. His main duty was maintaining the power plants in order to keep them operational and to ensure their radar activity. He served overseas in WWII in the Aleutian Islands. He qualified as a carbine sharpshooter and received the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged from the Army on Nov. 22, 1945. He was a life-time member of the VFW Post 4525 and received a life-time member plaque which hangs on the wall at the VFW hall in Waldoboro. He enjoyed raising fox hounds and running them whenever he could. He won a trophy during a fox trial in Dutch Neck, Waldoboro, for having the best fox hound in the country. He still holds that same trophy today, which has never been relinquished to any owner of a fox hound of that nationally known fox trial. He was always known for raising the best fox hounds in this area and beyond. He raced his wooden Liberty boat with a 25 Mercury outboard motor, hand made by Mercury. There was only a handful made. He came in first many times. He enjoyed riding his Indian motorcycle up and down through town when he was a teenager. He was employed by the state and the Wiscasset Power Plant for a few years and was forced to retire from Sylvania after 23 years of employment due his failing health. He truly loved his family and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was predeceased by his brothers, Earl and Rodney Winchenbach and sister, Elsie Martin. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary Winchenbach of Waldoboro; sons, Stanley Winchenbach and wife Katie of Waldoboro, and Dana Winchenbach and partner Debbie Sanborn of Waldoboro; step children, Donna Kelly and husband Dan of Wolfeboro, N.H., and Donald Turner and wife Linda of Union; grandchildren, Trevor, Christopher and Ryan Kelly of Wolfeboro, N.H.; Donald and Darren Turner of Virginia, David Turner of Waldoboro, Sonya and Joel Winchenbach of Waldoboro, and Jason Winchenbach and wife Heather of Round Pond; great-grandchildren, Christopher and Zachery Mank and Dylan Saunders of Waldoboro, and Caleb Winchenbach of New Harbor; step grandchildren, Cruz Richards of Warren, Claire Turner of Warren, Donald Turner, Jr. of Virginia, Abigail Turner of Ohio and Rebecca Collins of Ohio; brother, Roy Winchenbach and wife Cynthia of Back Cove; sisters, Faye Winchenbach of Waldoboro, and Arlene Burns and husband Keith of Nobleboro; and many nieces and nephews. Beim Tod des Sohnes Johannes Pfaff 1834 heißt es im Kirchenbuch Driedorf, der Geburtsname der Mutter sei Philipps gewesen. Möglicherweise handelt es sich dabei aber auch um eine Verwechslung mit dem Geburtsnamen von Henrich Pfaffs zweiter Frau (auch das Geburtsdatum von Johannes Pfaff ist in dem Eintrag falsch angegeben - 30.9.1759 in Münchhausen, ein Datum, daß weder in Driedorf noch in Nenderoth eingetragen und aufgrund der Taufe von Johann Christ im Oktober 1759 auch gar nicht möglich ist). Nach den Paten könnte allerdings auch die erste Frau des Henrich Pfaff aus der Familie Philipps stammen. Da jedoch das erste Heiratsdatum sowie das Sterbedatum der ersten Frau fehlt, stellt sich die Frage, ob Henrich Pfaff überhaupt zweimal verheiratet war oder ob nicht die in Arborn geborenen Kinder unehelich waren. Dafür gibt es jedoch ebensowenig einen Hinweis. Auch die Möglichkeit, daß es sich um zwei verschiedene Henrich Pfaffs handelt, ist nicht auszuschließen, wenn auch nicht sehr wahrscheinlich, da dann von einem Ehepaar beide Sterbedaten fehlen würden | PFAFF, Johann Heinrich (I7253)

| 8172 | Von 1921 bis 1956 befand sich auf dem Gelände in der Viktoriastraße das Kopierwerk der AFIFA (Aktiengesellschaft für Filmfabrikation), diese wurde 1925 zur UFA eingegliedert und mit ihr 1956 liquidiert. Das Kopierwerk wurde an diesem Standort wegen der Nähe zu den ehemaligen Ufa-Studios in der Oberlandstraße gebaut. 1949 wurde von Architekt Schmidt ein Kino in dem im Hauptgebäude des Ufa-Kopierwerkes gelegenen Saal mit 140 Sitzplätzen eingebaut. Diese Kino-Einrichtung „Afifa“ war lediglich für die internen Filmvorführungen[Anm 24] vorgesehen und genutzt. Ab 1953 wird der Saal auf 270 Plätze erweitert.[509] Das Konkurrenz-Kopierwerk zur Ufa war die Mosaik-Film in der Lankwitzer Mühlenstraße. Beide Kopierwerke gingen 1974 in die Knie, und es wurde ein Rettungsversuch unternommen durch Fusion zur „Mosaik-Union“ doch 1975 kam das Aus. Das Gelände gehörte nach der Auflösung der UFA-Stätten der Deutschen Bundespost. Am 9. Juni 1979 besetzte die Kommune die Stätten friedlich. Erst nachdem das verlassene Ufa-Gelände 1979 in das „Internationale Kulturzentrum Ufa-Fabrik“ umgewandelt wurde, gab es öffentliche Filmvorführungen. 1981 wurde der ehemalige UFA-Kinosaal wiederhergestellt, mit neuer Technik ausgerüstet und als öffentliches Kino in Berlin-Tempelhof eröffnet. Es kam mit einem Teil der ehemaligen UFA-Filmgesellschaft zu Rechtsstreitigkeiten über den Namen dieses Kinos. So wechselte die Benennung des Kinos zunächst: alternativ als „Ufer-Palast“, später als „Ufo“. Schließlich wurde der Name durch Gerichtsentscheid angeordnet: mit Punkten als „U.F.A. Palast“.[510] Es wurde im Jahr 1982 das erste Berliner Freilichtkino eröffnet. Hier begleitete unter anderem Willy Sommerfeld Stummfilme live auf dem Klavier. 1986 eröffneten zwei kleine Filmstudios „UFO 2“ und „UFO 3“ in umgebauten ehemaligen Synchronstudios. Der Kinobetrieb im vorherigen Kinosaal wurde 1989 eingestellt, jedoch wurde das Freilichtkino zunächst noch weiter betrieben. Umgebaut in einen Varietésalon, wird der ehemalige Kinosaal seit 1990 für Veranstaltungen und zunehmend seltener für Filmvorführungen genutzt.[510] Die ufaFabrik wurde ein selbstverwaltetes Kultur- und Lebensprojekt. Zum UFO Freilichtkino der „UFA Fabrik Berlin e.V.“ in der Viktoriastraße 13 sind 1993 im UFO Kino 1 150 Plätze und für UFO Kino 2 und UFO Kino 3 je 48 Plätze angegeben. | 8200 | Waldoboro - Addison Winchenbach, 88, passed away at his home Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013. He was born in Waldoboro Oct. 25, 1924, the son of the late Chester and Carrie Cushman Winchenbach. Growing up in Waldoboro, he attended local schools until leaving school to join the work force. At the age of 17 he joined the United States Navy, serving honorably for three years with one of those years being spent on the island of Guam. After returning home he found work driving an old pulp truck for Ben Lincoln of Washington and so began his career behind the wheel. For 20 years you could find him driving for Payson Farm Machinery in Union until he had a heart attack at the age of 47. Although this was a major event, it did not stop him. After laying low for a little, the road called again and he would go to work for Crowe Rope, where he would work for another 20 years. While working for Crowe, he would take over the California trips. With this route he was able to cross almost every state in the continental U.S., only missing all 50 states by two or three. He became the number one driver for Crowe Rope and this was something that he was very proud of. A true truck driver, he made sure to keep his Kenworth running in tip-top shape, taking great pride in his rig. The road called to him for many years and he finally retired from the long hauls at the age of 82. After retiring he made sure to stay busy and always had projects going at the house. More often than not you would find him in the woods. More often than not you would find him in the woods cutting down trees or riding around on his tractor. In the winter months, you could find him on his snowmobile riding trails throughout Lincoln County. Spending so much time on the machine, his wife finally went out and bought one for herself because riding on the back of his was starting to get uncomfortable, especially with all of the riding that they would do. Bowling was also something that he loved to do and would probably have lived at Depatsy's lanes if he could. When the family would go with him he would always say "just one more string and then we will go" and that one string usually turned into many more. If not at the bowling alley or on the tractor, one could probably look upstairs at the house and find him amongst the Lionel trains. Having set up multiple tracks, the trains would chug along over the various track set ups. You may also find a pool game or two being played amongst the trains as that was another pastime, having friends over and playing hundreds if not thousands of games of eight ball. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all that knew and loved him. With each train whistle, strike, fallen tree, or crack of a cue ball his memory will live on. He was predeceased by nine of his brothers and sisters; Millard, Harold, Grace, Warren, Robert, Francis, Priscilla, Gideon, and Russell. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Geraldine "Gerry" Winchenbach of Waldoboro; daughters Evelyn Shover of Arrowsic, Valorie Winchenbach of Waldoboro; sons Reggie Winchenbach, and his wife Cheryl, of Bucksport, Ricky Winchenbach, and his wife Becky, of Marlboro, Md.; brother Carlton Winchenbach of California; sister Christine Clifford of Waldoboro; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, at 11 a.m. at the Dutch Neck Cemetery with Pastor Tom Rawley officiating.
