YARMOUTH - Shirley Burnes Winchenbach, 79, of Bartlett Circle died Tuesday at a Portland hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Waldoboro, a daughter of Fred L. and Lottie (Graham) Burnes, and was a graduate of Waldoboro High School in 1935 and the Maine General Hospital School of Nursing in 1940 as a registered nurse. She worked for many years at Miles Memorial hospital in Damariscotta, primarily in maternity, and also provided private-duty nursing care. In 1950, she married Russell N. Winchenbach. They owned and operated Fieldcrest Nursing Home from 1962 until 1969. Mrs. Winchenbach was a member of the Women's Club in Union and the R.N. Club of Lincoln County. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and her family. She was very proud of being present at the birth of most of her nieces and nephews. She was a member of South Liberty Baptist Church, Liberty. Surviving are her husband, Russell N. Winchenbach; a daughter, Laurie J. Broberg, both of Yarmouth; a son, Russell F. Winchenbach of Maryville, Tenn.; three sisters, Maude Ralph and Millicent Vannah, both of Waldoboro, and Gertrude Ralph of Jefferson; and five grandchildren. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, with the Rev. Nathan Garnett officiating.
