- WINTHROP - Arlene Dorothy Mank, 85, passed away peacefully in her home Wednesday, April 13, 2011. She was born in Augusta on Nov. 23, 1925, a daughter to Amos H. Higgins and Minnie (Webber) Higgins. She graduated from Cony High School in 1944. In 1948, she married Kenneth T. Mank of Farmingdale.
She worked for Gardiner Oil for 10 years and as a Secretary for the VA Medical Center at Togus for many years.
She was a former member of Winter Street Baptist Church. At her death, she was again a member of the Penney Memorial United Baptist Church, where she had attended as a child and started her married life.
Arlene was predeceased by her infant sister, Constance, and sisters Evelyn Jewell, Rachel Whittier and Beverly Burton.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Kenneth T. Mank, of Winthrop; daughter Patricia and husband Walter Guild of Farmingdale; son Richard and wife Joan of West Gardiner; daughter Judith A. Mank of Winthrop; sisters Madelyn Hunt of Gorham, and Ruth Jones of Weeks Mills; grandson Michael and wife Ruth, and great-grandson Joseph of Virginia; grandson Matthew and wife Alissa of Augusta; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.
Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 18, at the family lot in Maine Avenue Cemetery in Farmingdale. (Kennebec Journal 4/15/2011)
