  	John Hart Terrell Obituary John Hart Terrell, born on February 3, 1934, formerly of Lincoln, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2021 in Concord, Massachusetts. He was the husband of the late Mary (Johnson) Terrell who died in 2010. Throughout his life, John Terrell was inspired by those around him to pursue his many passions. His love of music came from his mother, who in their hometown of Magnolia, Arkansas would transmit radio stations playing classical music from New England. John's father was very bright and attended college until his duties on the family's farm called him home. His experience taught John the value of education and encouraged him to pursue his scholarly passions of science and the German language. John attended a small local college and then went on to the University of Arkansas where he was able to take German. After he completed his degree, he received a Fulbright Scholarship that allowed him to study for a year in Marburg, Germany. Upon his return to the States, John spent a year at Princeton and later research fellowships at Harvard University. He earned a PhD in physics from Brandeis University and his studies led him to a career as a physicist, conducting research projects for many start-up companies in the Boston area. During his time at Harvard, John met his future wife Mary Helen Johnson, who was a nursing student at Boston College. They enjoyed 51 wonderful years together, raising their five children in Lincoln, Massachusetts. John pursued the cello for many years. Later in life, John studied with a master painter to learn the Japanese art of Sumi-e and studied Buddhism as well. He also wrote a memoir about his life adventures in honor of his son Scot who passed away in 1996. John Terrell is survived by his daughter Lisa Mary Terrell-Poulos and husband Nick Poulos of Berlin, Massachusetts, son Shawn Christopher Terrell and wife Kaeti Elizabeth Miller and their two young children Otis Scot Terrell and Ruby Mae Terrell of Washington DC, daughter Tracy Helen Terrell and her two daughters Valerie and Julia Machado residing in Massachusetts, daughter Alison Hart and son Luis Scot Booth of Alameda, California, his brother William and sister in law Julie Terrell and their three grown children Jan, Eric and Lynn. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Southern Poverty Law Center (www.splcenter.org), a catalyst for racial justice and beyond, working in partnership with communities to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements, and advance human rights of all people. Arrangements are under the care of Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
